sustainability & materials

how we make things

every gentle nod item is made to order. nothing is produced until someone buys it. there is no warehouse full of unsold stock, no end-of-season clearance,
no unsold stock created through overproduction. that's not a sustainability initiative — it's just how print on demand works. but it's worth saying plainly.

the blanks

all printed garments are made on stanley/stella blanks — a Belgian manufacturer with a reputation for doing this properly.

  • certified organic cotton (GOTS) — grown without harmful pesticides or synthetic fertilisers
  • certified free from harmful chemicals (OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100)
  • PETA-approved vegan
  • fair wear foundation member — independent verification of labour standards across the supply chain

we didn't choose stanley/stella for the certifications. we chose them because the garments are well made. the certifications are confirmation, not the reason.

printing

all prints use water-based DTG (direct-to-garment) ink, applied directly to the fabric. no heat transfers, no plastisol. the result is a soft print that's part of the garment rather than sitting on top of it.

fulfilment

orders are fulfilled by printful from facilities local to you where possible — reducing the distance your order travels before it arrives.

what we don't claim

we're not a sustainable brand in the campaigning sense. we don't offset carbon, we don't have a recycling programme, and we don't control every part of the supply chain. yet. what we do is choose suppliers and materials that meet high standards, and make things to order rather than in bulk. that's the honest version.
